What is Blackjack?
Blackjack (also called 21) is a comparing card game between players and a dealer.
The goal is to have a hand value closer to 21 than the dealer’s, without going over 21.
Card Values
-
Number cards (2–10): Worth their face value.
-
Face cards (J, Q, K): Worth 10 each.
-
Ace (A): Can be worth 1 or 11, whichever is more favorable for the player’s hand.
Example:
-
A ♥️ + 10 ♣️ = 21 (Blackjack)
-
A ♦️ + 6 ♠️ = either 7 or 17
How to Play Blackjack
-
Place Your Bet
Each player places a bet before the cards are dealt.
-
Initial Deal
-
Dealer gives 2 cards to each player (face up).
-
Dealer also gets 2 cards: one face up, one face down (the “hole card”).
-
-
Player’s Turn
You can choose:
-
Hit ➝ Take another card to increase hand value.
-
Stand ➝ Keep your current hand and end your turn.
-
Double Down ➝ Double your bet, take only one more card, then stand.
-
Split ➝ If you have two cards of the same value (e.g., 8 & 8), you can split them into two separate hands (requires an extra bet).
-
-
Dealer’s Turn
-
The dealer reveals their hidden card.
-
The dealer must hit until reaching 17 or higher.
-
If the dealer busts (goes over 21), all remaining players win.
-
-
Winning
-
If your hand is closer to 21 than the dealer’s, you win.
-
If your hand equals 21 with first two cards (Ace + 10 or face card), that’s a Blackjack, usually paying 3:2.
-
If both you and the dealer have the same value, it’s a push (tie, no one wins).
-
⚖️ Example Hands
-
Player: 9 ♦️ + 7 ♥️ = 16 → Hits → gets 5 ♠️ → total = 21 (Perfect win ✅).
-
Dealer: 10 ♣️ + 6 ♦️ → Hits → gets 10 ♥️ → total = 26 (Bust ❌).
👉 Blackjack is fun because it combines luck (the cards you get) with skill (when to hit, stand, or double down).
